What is the main difference between living in a wooden building and a classic brick house?

We could say that they are not different, because both types of houses (differentiated by construction) are to serve their purpose, to provide their residents with comfortable, cozy and safe housing. The main difference is that the sandwich timber building is available immediately after construction to move in and living, no feeling of rawness, feel warm walls, lower heat accumulation (a property that in a modern controlled heated house can be considered negative), the possibility of faster changes in internal temperature (in winter it heats up much faster, in summer it is cooled by ventilation or air conditioning).

The outer walls of a well-made wooden building insulate very well, both thermally and acoustically, which is why in many cases it is a winner in comparison with a classic modern masonry building, much more than in comparison with an older house. If the question is more about the general properties of individual houses, it can be said that wooden housing is characterized by words such as comfort, low heating costs, easy change of indoor temperature or larger usable area with the same built-up area. And if you touch the inner or outer wall, it is nice if you do not suffer a thermal shock (cold feeling), the temperature of such a wall is much closer to the temperature of the indoor environment.

So isn't it true that a wooden building has a shorter lifespan than a brick house?

Wooden constructions have persisted for centuries and in terms of durability, they are fully comparable with constructions made of other materials. Of course, it depends on the care we take. We must honestly take care of everything that is to serve us well - unfortunately, people often forget it. This is despite the fact modern wooden buildings meet strict legal and standard requirements for strength, stability, and durability.

The wooden building is said to be built in any season. Is it true?

The construction in the form of dry technology, the realization of the complete upper part of the wooden building (all except the foundation slabs), enables rational utilization of the workforce throughout the year. Consequently, unlike conventional masonry buildings, construction can be carried out in any season at favorable climatic conditions. This saves time for the realization of your plans, shortens the construction time, but also the time for which the investor's funds are already covered by a tradable construction part (it is possible to register the construction on the Land Register very soon and is a guarantee to the banking institution).

How long does a rough timber construction take?

Ordinary log house or timber with dimensions eg. 10 x 10 m is produced in two to three months. After the production is finished, the parts are numbered, disassembled and transferred to the investor's land, where the whole house is folded again in about 1 month. The truss is finished in another 14 days and sanding and impregnation in another 3 weeks.

What is the difference between the thermal properties of a wooden house and a well-insulated brick house?

It is possible to achieve the same level of thermal insulation, professionally speaking, the same thermal resistance of the wall in m2K / W (min.) For both systems, wooden and classic brick house (silicate house). However, the difference will be in the wall thickness needed to achieve the same thermal resistance and cost. In the case of a wooden building, approximately 25 cm is sufficient, in the case of a house made of silicates, a wall with an unrealistic thickness of one meter would correspond to the same thermal properties! The thermal section of the wooden wall of our system achieves and exceeds by default the value of R = 5.2 m2K / W (min.).

How is the wiring inside the walls, water, heating, gas, electricity?

Similar to plasterboard partitions. The market today offers self-extinguishing electrical cables that do not need to be piped. Some timber construction manufacturers prefer pipe-punching when preparing panels. The water pipe is wrapped with insulation material against condensation and heat loss.

Can I see a sandwich wooden building from a modern classic brick house?

The difference is only in the thickness of the lining of windows and balcony doors, the wall of the wooden building is considerably thinner ... The facade and other exterior layers are similar or the same in a modern brick house and wooden buildings, so even tapping the facade will not give you anything. Identical materials and types can be used.

How thick would a classic brick wall have to be to match the thermal insulation properties of a sandwich timber wall?

Such a wall (of solid bricks) would have to be almost four meters thick, a wall of some porous materials (bricks, blocks, ...) would have to be less than three meters thick.

Do you need any special foundation boards for wooden construction?

The base plate of a wooden building can be much simpler and therefore cheaper. The foundations are concreted only under the perimeter walls (lower house weight). It is even possible to consider prefabricated foundations (assembly of the superstructure is possible almost immediately).

I bought a cottage what needs to be checked?

First, it is necessary to check the quality of the chimney and wiring preferably by a revision technician, or possibly check the water quality. Also, be sure to check the condition of the wood and, if necessary, treat it with a suitable product.

What is most important in the construction itself?

The basis is a perfectly mastered construction detail and knowledge of the principles of the so-called "structural protection of wood". This is necessary to prevent moisture ingress into the structure and to protect the structural elements from the flowing air. Structural protection always takes precedence over chemical protection! Also, timber and timber products must not be designed in places where they cannot by their nature succeed, for example below ground level. It is also necessary to observe technological procedures during construction.

However, many people still imagine wood as "wooden".

Unfortunately, the windows are deep in the minds of the builders as a deterrent example of outdated timber construction. However, development is completely different today. New certified materials, technologies, heating systems, appearance, and design moved wooden buildings in a completely different direction than the mentioned windows. They have a modern look that fits into cities.

Then there is another group that imagines a cottage under the wooden house, such as living for the weekend.

This is related to our tradition of cottage farming, but from which we should break as quickly as possible when evaluating timber buildings.
